ARTE & VINO / THE PILGRIM RETURNS TO FRANCIACORTA

The pilgrim's hip flask: this is the latest initiative, in chronological order, from La Montina of Monticelli Brusati in Franciacorta. Made by hand in a limited edition of 999 copies, numbered and signed on the back label by the artist Paolo Menon, it is a development in the finest porcelain of the traditional flask from the Medieval pilgrims who used to wear it slung across the body or hung from the belt or a stick for the pilgrimages to the sacred places of Christianity.
The Pilgrim's Flask contains the Vì dèl Prét, "a meditation wine - explains Michele Bozza - obtained from grapes of a late harvest which have rested a long time in oak barrels".
On the exterior of the Pilgrim's Flask the artist Menon has sketched the symbology of the pilgrim walk, tipical of Medieval art: "I have drawn the pilgrim who pauses with staff and cape, the water flask for refreshment, the cithara for musical entertainment and lastly the shell of San Giacomo, the symbol par excellence of the pilgrimage popularised by Pope Benedetto XVI in the central frieze of his own papal crest", says the author.
The preview presentation of the flask took place in the ancient rooms of La Montina. Guest of honour was Mons. Liberio Andreatta, vicepresident of the Opera Roman Pilgrimage Society. "Mons. Andreatta - explains the president of La Montina, Vittorio Bozza - is the originator of the renewed vigour of contemporary pilgrims. The recent interest in this ancient experience is entirely due to his efforts".
The initiative is part of the La Montina project for culture which sees the company employed in the organisation of cultural events and artistic exhibitions.(...)
